Shiraj Khan is a Partner and Head of Property Analytics and Research at King Ridge Capital. He brings extensive expertise in Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS), with a strong background in analytics-driven underwriting, portfolio construction and management, catastrophe (cat) research and analytics, and climate risk assessment. Throughout his career across ILS and (re)insurance, he has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to uncover gaps in risk understanding, drive innovation in underwriting analytics, and provide strategic leadership in catastrophe risk management.
Previously, Shiraj was part of the ILS team at PIMCO, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening ILS risk analytics framework by developing proprietary research and analytics that enhanced the precision underwriting of cat bonds and reinsurance deals. Prior to that, he led the establishment of AIG’s first R&D group, driving thought leadership and the development of advanced risk models and analytics to address key gaps in the company’s underwriting and pricing of global cat risks.
Shiraj holds a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida and earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). While at IIT, he was honored with the President of India Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding achievements in both academics and sports. He also served as an adjunct professor of civil engineering at Clemson University for five years, where he led collaborative research initiatives with leading experts in cat risks, high-performance computing, and supply chain risks. In recognition of his impactful contributions to the industry, Shiraj was honored with the North America and Bermuda Re/Insurance Rising Star Award by Reactions Magazine in 2014.
